Ear wax removal in Ferring, at home.

Professional microsuction and ear wax removal at your home, with independent audiologist Tim Davies.

If your ears feel blocked, sounds seem muffled or you suspect a build-up of ear wax, Tim can visit your home in Ferring to examine your ears.

South Coast Hearing provides home ear care across Ferring village, including Ferring Street, Sea Lane, Langbury Lane and the surrounding residential neighbourhoods.

Tim examines your ears before recommending any removal. If wax is present and treatment is appropriate, he can use microsuction, irrigation or manual removal as suitable.

YOUR APPOINTMENT OPTIONS

At home in Ferring, or a nearby clinic.

A home appointment allows Tim to bring specialist ear examination and wax-removal equipment directly to your Ferring address.

This can be particularly helpful if you find travelling inconvenient, need assistance from a relative or simply prefer your own surroundings.

You do not need to be housebound to arrange a home visit.

There is also a nearby clinic option in East Preston if you prefer to attend an appointment elsewhere.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR EAR HEALTH

Blocked ears? First establish why.

Ear wax is normal and helps protect the ear canal. It usually moves out naturally, without requiring professional treatment.

Sometimes wax builds up and becomes impacted, causing muffled hearing, fullness or discomfort.

But a blocked feeling is not always caused by wax. Hearing changes can have other causes, which is why an examination comes first.

If no wax is present, Tim can explain the visible findings and discuss whether further assessment would be appropriate.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A careful examination, then suitable treatment.

Tim begins by discussing your symptoms and relevant ear health history.

He examines both ears using otoscopy or video otoscopy where appropriate.

If wax is present, he considers whether treatment is suitable and which method would be appropriate.

Microsuction, controlled irrigation and manual removal are available, but no single method is appropriate for every person.

Tim explains the recommended method and relevant risks before obtaining your consent.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

Should you use ear drops first?

Not necessarily. Firm or dry wax may sometimes be easier to remove after suitable softening.

Olive-oil drops or another appropriate wax softener may be recommended for several days, depending on your ear health.

There is no universal requirement to use Earol for two weeks. If you're unsure, ask Tim before your appointment.

If you've had ear surgery, grommets, a perforated eardrum or ear discharge, seek appropriate advice before using drops.

MORE THAN EAR WAX REMOVAL

What if hearing is still reduced?

Removing impacted wax may improve hearing when wax was responsible for the problem. Improvement cannot be guaranteed.

If hearing difficulties continue after wax has been addressed, Tim can discuss whether a comprehensive hearing assessment is appropriate.

Hearing aid users can also experience reduced sound when wax obstructs a filter, receiver, dome or earmould.

As an audiologist, Tim can advise whether an ear examination, hearing assessment or device check is needed.

Do I need to soften the wax beforehand?

Not always. Appropriate wax-softening drops may help with firm or dry wax, but preparation depends on your ear health. Ask Tim if you're unsure.
