EAR CARE AT HOME

Professional treatment in familiar surroundings.

A home appointment can be a practical option when travelling to a clinic is inconvenient.

Tim brings specialist examination and wax removal equipment directly to your address, along with time to discuss your symptoms and concerns.

Home visits may be especially helpful for someone who finds travelling difficult, requires assistance or simply prefers to be seen at home.

You don't need to be housebound to enquire.

YOUR EAR WAX APPOINTMENT

First establish what is causing the problem.

Ear wax is a normal and useful part of ear health, helping protect the ear canal.

Sometimes it builds up and causes muffled hearing, fullness or discomfort. But a blocked sensation isn't always caused by wax.

Tim begins with a discussion of your symptoms and relevant ear health history, followed by an examination of both ears.

If wax is present and removal is appropriate, Tim may use microsuction, controlled irrigation or manual removal. The chosen method depends on your ears and relevant precautions.

PATIENT EXPERIENCE

A comfortable appointment, at your own pace.

For someone who's worried about ear treatment, a little reassurance can make a meaningful difference.

Jessica described her experience of having ear care at home with South Coast Hearing.

“Tim was fantastic. I suffer quite badly with anxiety and I knew I needed to get it done. Tim really eased this and went at a pace suited for me. The best part was that it was done from my home and so by the time it came to it, I felt totally relaxed.”

BEFORE AND AFTER TREATMENT

Preparing your ears for wax removal.

Some firm or dry wax may be easier to remove following suitable softening.

Olive-oil drops or another appropriate ear wax preparation may be recommended for several days, depending on your ear health.

Not everyone needs the same preparation. There is no universal requirement to use Earol for two weeks.

If you've had ear surgery, grommets, a perforated eardrum or ear discharge, seek appropriate advice before using drops.

MORE THAN EAR WAX REMOVAL

What if hearing is still reduced?

Removing impacted wax may improve hearing when wax is responsible for the problem. However, improvement cannot be guaranteed.

If hearing difficulties remain, Tim can discuss whether a more comprehensive hearing assessment or other review is appropriate.

Wax can also affect hearing aids, either by blocking the ear canal or obstructing a dome, receiver or wax filter.
