PERSONAL EAR CARE CLOSE TO HOME

A simpler way to arrange ear wax removal.

Barnham and its neighbouring villages are well connected by road and rail, but a trip to an ear care clinic isn't always convenient or comfortable.

Home appointments remove that extra journey and allow treatment to take place somewhere familiar.

01

Your own surroundings

Tim brings suitable equipment to your home, making appointments easier to arrange around everyday routines, mobility and transport.

02

Time to feel comfortable

Tim explains the examination and any recommended treatment. You can ask questions and discuss concerns before deciding whether to proceed.

03

Professional assessment

Every appointment starts by checking the ears. Wax is only removed where it is present and treatment is appropriate.

A REAL PATIENT EXPERIENCE

Feeling at ease matters.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Understanding your ears before treatment.

Ear wax serves a useful purpose. It protects the ear canal, and for most people it clears naturally without intervention.

Occasionally wax builds up and causes blocked sensations, muffled hearing or discomfort. However, similar symptoms can have other causes.

That is why Tim starts by asking about your symptoms and relevant ear health history before examining the ear canal.

When wax removal is suitable, he may use microsuction, irrigation or manual removal. The method depends on the wax, your medical history and the condition of the ears.

01

Examine the ears

Tim checks for wax and other visible ear health findings, using otoscopy or video otoscopy where appropriate.

02

Explain the options

If wax is present, Tim discusses the suitable removal method, relevant risks and what to expect before obtaining consent.

03

Treat and advise

Treatment is followed by further examination where possible, along with advice about aftercare or any additional assessment.

MORE THAN JUST A BLOCKED EAR

When hearing aids seem less effective.

Ear wax can create particular difficulties for people who use hearing aids.

Wax inside the ear canal may reduce the sound reaching the eardrum. Wax can also collect around hearing aid domes, earmoulds and receiver filters.

If hearing aids have become quieter, an ear examination may help establish whether wax is contributing.

If hearing difficulties continue after wax has been addressed, Tim can advise on further hearing assessment or hearing aid checks.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

Do you need to soften the wax first?

Sometimes. Firm or dry wax may be easier to remove after suitable softening.

Olive-oil drops or another appropriate wax-softening preparation may be recommended for several days before your appointment.

There is no universal preparation routine that suits everyone. If you are uncertain about using drops, ask Tim before your appointment.

People with a history of perforated eardrums, grommets, ear surgery or discharge should obtain appropriate clinical advice before using ear drops.

A few practical reminders

  • A comfortable chair and suitable treatment space are helpful.
  • Avoid cotton buds and other objects inserted into the ear canal.
  • Have your hearing aids available if they have recently seemed quieter.
  • Tell Tim about previous ear surgery, infections or other relevant problems.

Important: Sudden hearing loss requires urgent medical assessment. Severe ear pain, discharge or bleeding may also need prompt medical care. Do not assume these symptoms are simply wax.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Ear wax removal in Barnham: what you might want to know.

Can I have microsuction at home in Barnham?

Yes. Tim provides home visit microsuction in Barnham where appropriate. An ear examination is carried out first to decide whether wax removal is needed and which treatment method is most suitable.

Do you visit Eastergate and Westergate?

Yes, home visit enquiries are welcome from Eastergate, Westergate and surrounding residential areas. Appointment availability and any travel requirements are confirmed individually.

Can both ears be treated for £90?

Yes. The standard £90 home wax removal fee covers treatment of one or both ears, provided removal is appropriate.

What if I have no ear wax?

If no wax is found, the consultation fee is £40 rather than £90. Tim can explain the visible ear health findings and discuss appropriate next steps.

Is microsuction the only treatment available?

No. Tim also offers irrigation and manual removal where appropriate. The choice depends on your ear health history, the position of the wax and the condition of the ear canal.

Is ear wax removal painful?

Many people tolerate wax removal well, although treatment can sometimes cause discomfort, noise, irritation or temporary dizziness. Less commonly, bleeding, infection or ear injury can occur. Tim explains relevant risks before proceeding and checks how you are feeling during treatment.

Do I need to put olive oil in my ears first?

Not necessarily. Wax-softening drops can help in suitable cases, especially where wax is hard or dry. Ask Tim for guidance if you are unsure what is appropriate for your ears.

What happens if the wax cannot be removed?

Some wax may be too firm or difficult to access safely during a single appointment. Tim will explain the outcome and discuss whether further softening, a follow-up visit or referral is appropriate. The listed follow-up consultation fee is £40.

How quickly can I book a home visit?

Availability varies. Submit an appointment request online or contact Tim directly. Your booking will be confirmed once the appointment and travel arrangements have been reviewed.
